Research and resources: Portal for North America
The Centre for International Governance Innovation is proud to announce the Portal for North America (PNA) as a new resource for North American governance and North American Studies programs. PNA is CIGI's premier site for research, discussion and educational resources on critical continental issues. The aim of this project is to develop, in collaboration with partners in each of the three countries, a knowledge resource tool intended to spur a greater understanding of North American issues, and foster interaction between the many policy actors, academics and experts involved in this area.
The North American arena has many players, but lacks a defined plan. It has been variously argued that truly valuable solutions for the future of North America must come from policy stealth, political statecraft, or institutional innovation, but tri-national agreements and efforts continue to prescribe rather than mandate coordination. To build North America, the significant challenges of communication, consultation and coordination remain.
Back on the map: A new vision for Canada in the World
Charting a bold new vision for Canada in the world, Back on the Map details the results of the most comprehensive and unique citizen consultation on foreign policy in the history of the country.
The report, released on March 11 by Canada's World, provides a citizens' vision of a clear future direction for Canadian foreign policy - one based on Canada as a role model in the world in five strategic areas:
- Advancing a Green Economy
- Embracing Diversity
- Promoting Good Governance
- Fostering Innovation
- Enhancing Equality and Human Development
Back on the Map posits that for years, Canadian governments have neglected foreign policy and focused energies and attention on domestic issues. Canada’s reputation has withered to the point where it is barely visible on the global stage. Rather than convening foreign policy experts, Canada’s World – a collaboration of individuals, organizations, foundations and academic institutions – met with thousands of Canadians across the country over four months to revitalize Canada’s role in the world.
This inaugural symposium gathered a diverse group of leading researchers, practitioners, technologists and academics to explore future directions for IGLOO Network.
Addressing primary networking issues - network governance structure and roles, intrinsic value, sustainability, technology, membership and engaging individuals, symposium participants actively participated in shaping IGLOO Network as a place to explore, collaborate and innovate for change in global governance research, education and practice.
